Our Church...A Little Update

Well, it's been a while since I've posting anything about church since this tends to be a blog about the girls, but I thought it would be fun to update those who aren't there on Sundays with us.

Nearly three and a half years ago, while I was still pregnant with our 2nd child, Jason shared something that he had been praying about for some time. He said that he felt like God was calling us to start a church. What?! Really? I didn't think he even wanted to ever be a lead pastor, much less to start a church from nothing. We prayed for many months about this, and it was finally time to start. God had been preparing us and paving a way for this tiny church to begin. Amazingly enough, he began whispering to the hearts of others as well, and they joined us in the journey as we began meeting weekly.

When we first started we met in living rooms on Sunday evenings, and then in June of 2008 we had our first official Sunday morning service at an intermediate school. We met there for just over a year when we moved to our current location at a high school.

Since we've moved into the Woodlands High School a year and a half ago we've really seen major changes. God has been doing great things!!! We're not people counters by any means, so no one ever stands in the back and counts, but the seats have filled up considerably and I do believe we've passed the awkward stage of filling out a large auditorium! That's the problem with sitting in a place like that, you can't just put out the number of seats you want to, so you're stuck with what's there (although we do curtain off the back part). When I walk in there and see what God has grown I simply can't believe that what started in our living room with 16 people has become what it is today. God has been so faithful to do what we knew He would when He first called us to this.

We have a number of Community Groups around this area, mostly here in The Woodlands, Spring, and Magnolia, but also as far away as Kingwood and Rice Village. That. Is. Crazy!

Faithful leaders have stepped up to serve in so many ways on Sundays and during the week. There's currently more than 80 people serving in the children's ministry, and there are so many men that commit to setting up and tearing down our church each week. That seriously amazes me!!

God has brought an incredible team of staff together to serve this church, and we now have 4 full-time staff members, including the worship pastor who we have been together with from the get-go, the pastor of missional community who came last summer and a ministry assistant who has been with us for some time and just recently started working full-time. There are also a few part-time children's ministry staff members who are passionate about serving and working with the kids in KidsPoint. See the staff members here if you want! They are all amazing and we are thankful for them!

What has been by far the most incredible thing going on at our young church is to see hearts transformed and lives being changed by the Spirit and through the teaching of the Gospel. Of course, that is the most important thing, lives being transformed for eternity. This is why we do what we do. It has been amazing.

As a proud wife I have to say that I am continually amazed by Jason's teaching. He truly is an incredibly gifted communicator, and God has used him in amazing ways to preach the Gospel. He teaches verse by verse through a book of the Bible, and right now we're in Colossians. Every once in a while someone else will fill in if he's out of town or needs a break, and I am thankful that there are also others in the church who can step in and fill the role of teacher as well.

I pray daily for Jason as our pastor and leader, for the other staff members, for other families at WPCC, and for God to continually be glorified through all that is going on at our young church. I am continually thankful for all God has been doing these past few years, and I can't wait to see what He has in store in the future. It has been an incredible blessing to be a part of something so amazing.

Some more exciting church news is coming soon, and I can't wait to share it! I'll keep you posted!

Thank you for sharing that. I loved reading about "your journey." Isn't the Lord faithful? Your church is such a clear picture, even to a reader, of the Lord's faithfulness. Praying blessings on your church community!
