Bathroom Redo #1

Our home was built in 1981. We really wanted an older house... but with an older home comes much updating to be done. Remember this post? It cracks me up that people thought I was serious. If you haven't read it already, please go there and see all of the loveliness that our home was when we moved in.

We finally tackled the half bath, and by we I obviously mean my handy husband. This bathroom was not gross by any means; it just wasn't "us." We wanted to change it.

Here are some before pictures. However, Jason added the beadboard, and I forgot to get a picture before that.

Anyway, just a nice beige color. Nothing wrong with it, but I didn't want it. Nor did I want the brass fixtures.

(Every time Jason paints a room
he does this first. He's a cutie!)

So what's a girl on a budget to do? Jason really wanted to buy a new light fixture, faucet, towel rack, and toilet paper holder. But I didn't! I didn't feel like spending money on that stuff when we have tons of other things we were wanting to fix up, too. Those things add up quickly!

It took some time, but I finally convinced him to try things my way. Spray paint to the rescue!! I had seen so many blogs with people using Rustoleum's Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint to redo things, so I thought we'd give it a try. It was hard to find, though. We eventually found it at the little Sears hardware store by our house.

Anyway, look how great it turned out! And all we paid for was primer and spray paint. What a cheap way to fix things up!

We painted the walls a pretty blueish gray just like the kitchen. I can't for the life of me think of the name of it, but we got a little sample card at Restoration Hardware and had it made at Wal-Mart instead. We weren't about to spend $40 on a gallon of paint there. $8 Wal-Mart paint works just fine for us.

I'm not too wild about the sconces above the potty, but they were just sitting in the closet and I wanted something to fill the space. For now they will work, but I would like something different there eventually.
We'd love to have that fake granite countertop gone, but that costs too much money at this point. Maybe one day!

Overall we love how it turned out. Hooray for cheap and easy redos! I'll be back soon with more before and afters. We finally got rid of the lovely wallpaper in the other bathrooms. Thank goodness!

I took a look at the first post. You sure had yourself a vintage 80's home. It looks like you're off to a good start. I do like the beadboard and the new fixtures.

p.s. Wallpaper is on the rebound... but not that kind :0

Talk to you soon ;)

I love how it turned out for you. We are in the process of doing some updating too. The paint was a great fix for the light fixture.
We have a set of what I call Hollywood bulbs so I am looking for a new fixture on sale. Looks great! Jackie

Great job!! I'm very jealous about the beadboard!

I just used the same spray paint on a wet bar sink and was truly shocked at how gorgeous it turned out. I've got a whole line of things that I'm planning on spraypainting with the oil-rubbed bronze...

Great job!!
